Youth 2008 | Doing a New Thing ::

In July 2004, more than 7000 youth, young adults, and leaders from across the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church gathered in Greensboro, NC to experience “Living Water.” The experience is fresh and vivid in the minds of many youth and young adults throughout the Connectional Church.

Once again we journey in the tradition of Christian Education nurturing and forming youth and young adults throughout the CME Church whom God is leading to break forth God’s kingdom. We hear the words of the Prophet Isaiah saying”

“Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
---(Isaiah 43:18-19/NRSV)

As we embrace the Connectional Theme, “From Good to Great,’’ the words of the prophet Isaiah resound noisily, “ I Am About to do a New Thing; do you not perceive it?

During the week of July 7 – 11, 2008, the General Secretary and Staff of Christian Education will welcome youth and young adults from across the Connectional church to a disciple making event that forms and transforms them as they encounter the prophetic challenge of perceiving a “New Thing” springing forth in local churches, districts, regions and Episcopal Districts throughout the connection.

CYYAC2008 will gather thousands of CME youth, young adults, Christian Educators, leaders and guests from throughout the U.S., Africa, Haiti and Jamaica to an awesome and extraordinary time of celebration and fellowship in Orlando, Florida, July 7-11, 2008. During these five days, youth and young adults, as well as leaders will be challenged to consider new and prophetic ways of ministry in the areas of formation, leadership, nurture and mission.

Our prayer and hope is that Youth and Young Adults from across the Connectional church will encounter fresh and new perspectives of experiencing God that challenge them to go back to their local churches and communities ready to “Do A New Thing,” perceiving a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, as they put mission into action and live out their faith in ways they could never imagine.

*All youth attending CYYAC 2008 must be assigned to a group leader. The recommended ratio for chaperones is 4:1 (four youth per 1 adult). Each group is encouraged to have a group leader/chaperone that is 25 years old or older. We strongly recommend that young adults not serve as chaperones as the Young Adult Conference will be held simultaneously at a different site.

CYYAC2008 is designed for youth (ages 12-18) and their adult leaders; and Young Adults (ages 18-35). CYYAC2008 is a gathering of two conferences during the same time period. Youth groups will be housed at Shingle Creek Resort and Young Adults will be housed at Rosen Centre and Rosen Plaza.
